Professional Peer Reviews for Non SEC Audit, Review, and Compilation Firms
The
American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Peer Review Program requires
that CPA firms, who have accounting or auditing practice in the United States or
its territories, submit to an approved practice‑monitoring program. When CPAs
prepare or assist in preparing financial statements, they are required under professional
standards to issue a report on those financial statements. A report may be one of
three kinds: audit report, review report, or compilation report. Once the report
is issued, a Peer Review of that report is conducted. Peer Review is an outside
review, performed by another accounting firm on a tri‑annual basis.
The Peer Review program is dedicated to enhancing the quality of accounting, auditing
and attestation services.
